Nicala is born
Well, Nicala, A Vampire Story, finally made it out in the world.
It all started back when I was a teenager. While my younger sister and I were glued to the TV, watching shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Roswell, Xena, and Charmed. She’d roleplay as her favorite characters. I, on the other hand, started making up my own. I wanted someone new. Someone fierce. Someone fun.
That’s how Nicala was born.
Back then, she was just a girl in my imagination—a mix of all the badass female leads we admired, but with her own scars and secrets. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was building a version of myself—someone I wished I could be. Brave. Resilient. Unapologetic.
I took her into Yahoo Chat rooms, back in the early 2000s (if you know, you know). I spent hours roleplaying as her, building out her world, giving her relationships, enemies… I met other writers in those rooms who did the same, and suddenly I wasn’t just pretending—I was storytelling. And I fell in love with it.
I wrote notes on everything, in my phone, sticky notes, notepads, etc. I never wanted to lose an idea.
I may never think of myself as a great writer, but I do believe I’m a great storyteller.
I write from the heart. I care about my characters. I care about the world I’ve built. And I love Nicala’s story. I hope you will too. If you’re into vampires, rebellion, forbidden love, and finding your power, I think you’ll like Nicala.
